National Local Presidents’ Conference

It is our pleasure to advise you that the Union of Health and Environment Workers will be holding its second National Local Presidents’ Conference in Victoria, BC from October 31st to November 2nd, 2022.  UHEW Policy 4 outlines the objectives of this Conference and provides information relating to the Agenda and Mandate.

With respect to the attendance, Local Presidents and National Council members are eligible to attend.  Should a Local President be unable to attend, only their alternate, their local Vice-President will be able to participate in their stead.

Although the policy states that Locals will be offered the possibility of sending an observer, due to the location of the Conference and the size of the venue, observers cannot be accommodated.

With respect to the agenda, it would be appreciated if issues of interest or training requirement could be submitted to the National office by September 4, 2022 to allow the National office sufficient time to make the necessary arrangements in terms of presentation and content.  Depending on the input received, the National office may proceed with inviting a guest to speak on the issue.

Single-room accommodation has been arranged with Inn at Laurel Point, 680 Montreal St., Victoria, BC, for the evenings of October 30th , October 31st, November 1st and November 2nd, 2022.  Please confirm your attendance no later than September 4, 2022 with Julie Lavictoire, Administrative Assistant to the National President (julie.lavictoire@uhew-stse.ca)

Please note that lunch will be provided during the duration of the Conference due to the location of the venue and time restrictions.  A registration form will be sent to those confirming their attendance where any dietary restrictions or any special accommodation can be noted.

Travel to Victoria will be on October 30th.  Travel home will be on November 3rd .  Those able to or wishing to travel after completion of business at the end of November 2nd can do so. More information will be provided once participants confirm their attendance.

As noted in the Policy, funding will be in accordance with UHEW Regulation 2, Expenses. As lunch is provided each day of the Conference, participants will not be eligible to claim for lunch for October 31, November 1 and November 2.

Further communications will be sent in regard to the agenda and events planned.

Should you have any questions concerning the above, please do not hesitate to communicate with the National office.  We are looking forward to this first face-to-face Conference following Covid and having discussions that will be productive and of benefit to those attending.

In solidarity,

Shimen Fayad
National President
