For more than 25 years Fishery Officers, members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the Union of Health and Environment Workers have been fighting for fair and equal treatment. This group of workers who help protect our fishery resources and our fishery related industries, communities and economic engine, for the future generations of Canadians has been under classified and underpaid for all this time.
It’s time to show this group of ‘essential’ workers the respect and money they deserve. They are working under the existing GT Classification Standard which was written in 1969 and bears no meaningful resemblance to the work being currently done by the Fishery Officers. They are upping the pressure on their department and on Treasury Board to do the right thing. Specifically, they want to be immediately reclassified within the current TC classification, to ensure they receive the classification level they deserve. They also want the creation of a distinct classification that recognizes the unique role, responsibilities and duties of all Fishery Officers.
As bargaining with Treasury Board heats up, so is their campaign for fairness. Starting the week of April 10 Fishery Officers across the country will be proudly wearing the stickers pictured here. They are showing their support for their cause and their union and negotiating teams. Please show them love and respect in return. Fishery Officers proudly work to ensure the conservation and protection of Canada’s fisheries for future generations. It’s time this government show them respect they deserve. Thank you for your support!
