Every year on March 8, people around the world mark International Women’s Day. It is a time to recognize the achievements, leadership, and contributions of women in our workplaces, our communities, and within the labour movement.
In unions such as UHEW and PSAC, women have played a critical role in advancing fairness, improving working conditions, and strengthening protections for all workers. Their leadership has helped move forward important progress on issues such as pay equity, workplace safety, and protections against harassment and discrimination.
International Women’s Day is also a moment to reflect on the work that still remains. Many women continue to face barriers in the workplace, including inequities related to pay, opportunity, and representation.
As union members, we share a responsibility to support respectful, inclusive, and equitable workplaces. Recognizing this day helps reaffirm our commitment to these principles and to continuing the work toward equality.
Thank you to all members who contribute to building stronger and more inclusive workplaces every day.
