On March 21, people around the world observe the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
This day reminds us of the importance of standing against racism and discrimination in all its forms. It also highlights the need to continue building workplaces and communities where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
Within the labour movement, unions such as UHEW and PSAC play an important role in advancing equity and promoting inclusive workplaces. Through collective agreements, workplace advocacy, and member engagement, unions help ensure that discrimination is addressed and that workers are supported when concerns arise.
Recognizing this day is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to fairness, respect, and equality for all members. It also encourages us to continue learning from one another and working together to challenge discrimination wherever it occurs.
Creating inclusive workplaces benefits everyone. By supporting one another and speaking up when necessary, we can help ensure that our workplaces reflect the values of equity, diversity, and respect.
