UHEW Statement on New On-Site Presence Announcement
Today, employers are announcing changes to on-site workplace presence that will impact our members across the country.
Let’s be clear: you are not alone—and your union is fighting back.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) has already taken action in response to this latest directive. Following the government’s announcement requiring increased in-office presence, PSAC filed an unfair labour practice complaint with the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations and Employment Board. [psacunion.ca]
This complaint challenges the employer’s decision to unilaterally change working conditions during ongoing collective bargaining, including changes that directly affect remote work arrangements. [psacunion.ca]
Under federal labour law, employers are not permitted to make these kinds of changes while negotiations are underway. PSAC’s action is a strong and necessary step to defend members’ rights and ensure that employers are held accountable.
What this means for UHEW members
- The union movement is actively resisting these changes.
- Legal action is already underway to challenge the employer’s decision.
- Your collective bargaining rights—and your voice—are being defended at the highest levels.
Stay informed and engaged
We know announcements like this create uncertainty and frustration. UHEW is committed to keeping members informed and supported as this situation evolves.
We encourage all members to:
- Stay connected with union updates
- Participate in workplace discussions
- Reach out to your local representatives with questions or concerns
Together, we will continue to stand up for fair working conditions, respect at the bargaining table, and the rights of our members.
