On May 5, we recognize Red Dress Day, a national day of remembrance for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+).

Red dresses displayed in communities across Canada symbolize the lives lost, the loved ones who continue to seek answers, and the importance of ongoing awareness and action.

UHEW stands in solidarity with Indigenous communities, families, survivors, and all those working toward safer communities and meaningful reconciliation.

Many of our members contribute every day through public service roles that support Indigenous communities, environmental stewardship, health, safety, and justice. Red Dress Day is an opportunity to reflect on the work still ahead and the shared responsibility we all have in building systems and communities grounded in respect, safety, and equity.

We encourage members to take time to learn, reflect, and participate in local acts of remembrance and awareness.

We honour those who are missing.
We remember those who were taken.
We stand with the families and communities who continue to seek justice.
